What is involved in a Reiki session?
Clients lie fully clothed on a massage table as Reiki is channeled from the practitioner to the client. The practitioner will gently place their hands on the client in various pre-determined positions along the body starting at the head. Each hand placement generally lasts between 3-10 minutes depending on the body’s needs.
What does Reiki feel like?
Experiences will differ from person to person but generally people report feeling deeply relaxed and at peace. Like an energetic bear hug. Most people usually end up having a quiet nap as the practitioner goes to work. Some people experience pins and needles, vibration, twitching, electric sparks or throbbing or will see a myriad of colours. This is all very normal and is just your body absorbing the energy and using it to clear any blocks. On a spiritual level, some people have reported out of body experiences and/or visions as well as visits from loved ones who have transitioned.
Is Reiki a religion?
No, Reiki is not a religion and is non-denominational. However, some people view Reiki as an important part of their spirituality due to their experiences. How "spiritual" the experience is for you is entirely your decision. You are always in control.
I’m an atheist. Will Reiki work for me?
Yes, of course! Reiki is simply energy and does not require any specific beliefs on the part of the practitioner or client. The only prerequisite is an open mind accepting of Reiki as energy (at least in the scientific sense) as a lack of acceptance will energetically build a wall and prevent you from absorbing it.
What can Reiki help with?
Just about anything! Reiki is very versatile and can be used to aid the healing of mental, emotional and physical issues. It may take several sessions to notice benefits depending on the gravity of the dis-ease, your willingness to accept the energy and the frequency of visits.
Are there any negative side effects?
People generally tend to feel lighter and relaxed after a Reiki session. However, sometimes toxins will be released into the blood stream to be filtered by the liver and kidneys and removed from the system. This can result in a headache/stomach ache or weariness. Should this happen, it may help to drink more water, eat lighter meals and take it easy. This is a good sign that the body has responded to the Reiki sesion and is cleansing itself.
Will Reiki interfere with my therapy, medication or medical treatment?
No, Reiki will only enhance any other forms of treatment you are exploring both mental and physical.
I’m pregnant, is Reiki safe for the baby?
Yes! Reiki is 100% safe. Babies tend to love Reiki and Mamas-to-be do too!
